Mark Flagler’s First Long-Distance Walking Workshop in Ireland was a success
On June 18, 2022, I had my first Long-Distance Walking Workshop in Ireland. I was delighted that eight people signed up for the workshop. We spent 5 hours walking 13km in the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains. The group discussed the many important topics of long-distance trails. We would walk, stop and chat about trails, preparation, gear and what to expect on those trails.
I focused the information on longer trails in Ireland, walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain and wilderness trails like the Appalachian Trail in the US. Some of the topics we discussed were: footwear, sleeping comfortably, nutrition, backpacks, clothing/gear to bring, town visits, water purification, Leave No Trace Ethics, trip preparation, training and much more.
It was a great day out in the Irish Mountains. I have two more workshops this summer and I hope the next workshop is as fun as the first one.
